Our mission was the same as anyone's. Survival. We quickly learned that to survive didn't mean hide in a hole and pull a rock over it.
No, survival was more than that, more than us. Survival meant the human race as a whole. So we amended our mission.
We took on the duty of protector, guardian. We thought our goal was nobel, and rightious. And it was, and still is. But not everyone sees it that way.
Because we fight back against not just the undead, but living oppressors as well. Elie Wiesel once said “I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” This is wisdom we carry with us always. And because of this wisdom, we have never been silent. Never been neutral.
We strike out against oppression, whenever, and where ever we find it.
It has made us many enemies. Enemies who have twisted their own actions to villify us. To attempt to show the world that we are monsters.
Enemies who have killed hundreds of innocents to have their way. Innocents we swore to protect.
Innocents we failed.
We will fail no more.
We are the Pirates of the Mississippi. And it's time the world realized just what that means. We will not falter, we will not fall, we will fight our oppressors till the bitter end.
And we will win.
Doc, Travis, Aaron, Nickens, to any and all who may hear this call. To arms, and let us rise against this threat, and teach them how to fear.
Remember our past. Remember our purpose. Remember our oath.
Remember Valhalla.

Damn it Alan!
We could of saved that place, I would of went personally! I see the point of not having our enemies close man but this is too far...My family was there you know... Look you asked me to form and lead this unit. You've got some of the best fighters here guarding walls man! I don't know... It's all catching up to me.
The paladins stand ready as always. Our newest memeber seems to be on his way back, god help whoever he gets his hands on. I'm worried Alan. What if this is it for us? I think we need to think about sending away our noncombatants. I'm no good at sea, we're going to have to take the fight to them.... meh.
Let's nail this asshole, I'll be on the wall if you need me.

Carnes walked into the HQ his boots clicking as he walked. He looked dirty and tired. His army had holes and dents all over. Sighing he started to take it off. "Don't worry I have clothes on underneath."
In a little under two minutes he had the armor shucked his body drenched in sweat looking to Alan he smiled. "The Citadel still stands tall Sir, and we have coffee."
Looking down at the map he pointed to Charlotte. "We left a homing beacon at this location. We left a personal message for those boys. It's very explosive."
"Chuck's in the medical bay being treated for third and fourth degree burns. My second in command Jackson has a broken hand. The others just bumps and bruises."
Sighing he took a deep breath and looking out the window. "Warren has told me that the new weapons and ammo variants are ready when we want them. Some of them are unstable, but usable. He can have a leg ready for Aaron too. We need to regroup and I am having the men pull out of the Rockies we don't need that base right now. I need them back at the Citadel."
Shaking his head he sighed. "Alan I don't know what we are going to do with this attack, but I do know one thing. We will have to pull out all the stops even using some weapons we may not want to."

Tal listened to Alan's speech as he walked up to the control room on the oil rig. He burst into the room, angry, upset, but determined. After the Captain ended his speech, Tal walked over to one of the control panels where a young man was sitting ready.
"Private, is it ready?" Tal stood over the young man, crossing his arms. All the compassion and love that he was well known for had been erased after the destruction of his dream.
The young man looked up at him with a little surprise and fear in his eyes, "Y-yes sir. But are we really going to do this?"
Tal looked down at him sharply, "We've lost control of Midgard! There is nothing left to take back after they slaughtered almost everyone we know and love! Now move aside! I'll do it myself!" Tal waited for the boy to stand up and step aside as Tal sat down, inserted a key, pressed in a code and watched as a screen came to life.

After a moment, Tal heard a large rumble and Tal watched on a screen as Midgard went up in flames. The dead, the Rejects, the Russians all went up with it.
"Burn in Hell you fuckers..." Tal said to himself and stood up.

"Curing the infection, one bullet at a time."
*sigh* ... Dammit.
On a different screen, Alan watched the sat feed as Midgard, once a haven of saftey and prosperity, died in a funeral pyre fitting enough for the heavens to notice.
"I'm getting too old for this shit..." The exhaustion on his face showed through any emotions he may have had as his last hope for a better world burned.
"Sir, you wanted our latest report?" The young man who stood before Alan couldn't have been more than 16. It made him feel all the more tired of the insanity that was overtaking them.
"What do you have, Bosun?" Alan picked up a cup of lukewarm coffee, determined to continue dealing with intel as long as possible.
"Sir, yes sir. Reports indicate that a Arleigh Burke-class destroyer has been sighted in the gulf. It's not one of our's, sir, and appears hostile. Also, the forces moving towards Commander Caine's location have sped up, we now estimate arrival in approx 10 hours."
"Any good news, Bosun?" Alan drained the coffee, then looked around for more. When he realized the pot was empty, he let out a frustrated sigh.
"Yes, sir. Commander Carnes has been recovered ahead of schedule, sir." The young bosun seemed happy to finally be able to report some good news, for once.
"Well, fuck me. How did they pull that one off? Never mind, I don't care. Have Travis see me as soon as physically possible, ok? Is there anything else, bosun?"
The young man began to sweat at the thought of giving the next report. "Y-yes sir. The Quarter Master has informed me that we are running low on supplies. Specifically, c-coffee, sir..." Without thinking about it, he stepped back, ready to run if needed.
Alan stared blankly at the bosun for a moment, then at his empty coffee mug, then turned to stare out of the window, not saying a word.
"At your leave, sir, I'll get back to my duties." The young man quickly walked out of the room, ready to do what must be done. To his credit, he only slightly flinched at the sound of a coffee mug crashing through a window, seconds later...

Where the hell are my knives? Aaron! Aaron wake up! There's a fucking war going on out there man. We gotta find him a leg Cap. We'll be making our way back to you boys as soon as we can. We can't give you our location but know we're with the Doc.
Get my equipment ready kids, daddy's coming home.

Well, I guess that makes me the crippled uncle?
And next time you start hitting me, Josh, you're gonna remember why the had me on a morphine drip. Palpable Bear gets cranky when his old war wounds start acting up.
Anyways, Alan its actually quite amusing to watch me run around here. Crutch in on hand, SIG Sauer .40 in the other, cursing the gods the entire time. I've had to beat Josh here a few times because of his over enthusiastic joy of my suffering.

He limps like a grandpaw!
Aaron grab your tactical legs, we're gonna still a boat and get our asses back to base. Don't worry I'll do all the hard work hop-a-long.
Maybe we should just ask? But then we wouldn't get to use all this rope we found... Also we need clothes. We can't be mounting a tactical operation in hospital gowns, I've seen enough of your ass for this life.

Watch your mouth, young wipper snapper!
Meh, I think these gowns could be used as a psy-op campaign. Seriously, how embarrassing would be to be beaten by a couple of guys in hopsital gowns. Though boxes at least would be preferred.
Oi, Josh! Slow the hell down! I'm not as agile as I once was. Damn this pace is tearing all my stitches out man!

Don't worry
I'll apply first aide/buddy care in the boat.... I bet I can stitch a lightening bolt into you... or my initials....
There's a semi-ridged down here. We'll take a gas can in case. I'll drive... you can.. bitch. You seem to be good at it. Also I've taken the liberty of spray painting your crutches black... for tactical reasons.
We shove off in 5 mikes. I expect you to refer to me as Oh Captain my Captain at sea....

Dude, get the fuck down. There's something up with that boat. I think I saw some movement in the boat house over there.

Well
That's likely because the rig is under attack, we gotta go. Capt Dryfter is blowing these semi-ridgeds out of the water as well so we'll have to be able to signal him... wait here. I'll go clear the boat, shoot anyone who looks like they needs it.... not including me...

It was just gonna be a leg wound.
It'd bleed plenty and avoid any major organs. So, it'd be a win win for all. Well mostly for me....
Hmmm, there's someone in there alright. He's sticking his muzzle out the window trying to steady himself. Amateur. I don't have a good shot from here, but I can keep his head down till you bust down the door. (Oog check your email)

Caine.
Good to see you're still in one piece. However, situations as they are, we cannot retrieve you at the moment. Which is unfortunate, as I would feel much better having you fight by our side.
The best advice I can give you is find a fox hole. What limited reports we have been able to pick up tell us that enemy forces will be passing your position within a day, and we can not send reinforcements.
However, if you can get to a Nergal base, we may be able to extract you within a few days.
Just do everything you can to survive till then.
No dying on us, that's an order, Commander.
