when it started:
when the outbreak was starting i found myself on a camping trip with friends, convinced by them to blow off the oppurtunity to get ahead on my studies.if i could still talk to them now i would thank them for that one last weekend together before all hell broke loose . as we were staying there the both saturday and sunday night there was no need for a designated driver I was free to ljoin my friends in drinking for a change, which led to my early retirment on both nights to the hard, cold floor with only the bag on my back and my crappy dorm pillow for a bed and a bin liner for a blanket[...students yeah? wouldn't have guessed]
being students we didn't ask for permission to camp there,or even consider that we would need it until a security guard or groundskeeper of some kind approached our tents late sunday evening. better to seek forgiveness than to ask forgiveness right? as it turns out...wrong.
my friends initially engaged him in a polite if intoxicated manner, asking if we had to leave...in response the man lurched foward and attacked my brother, who happened to be closest. before they could subdue the lunatic he had bitten him and another member of the group.
within the hour they had turned into the walking dead,i awoke to somebody screaming my name outside of the tent. screaming at me to run,get out of here.
naturally i ran directly to the screams, finding just my brother wrestling with johnathon,a guy from his class who i had never seen eye to eye with. he screamed at me again to save myself as he kicked my brother off, because he had "already been bitten" and get out of here.ignoring him like i fool i called out to my brother, who immediatly faced me and charged with a gore splattered mouth.
suddenly feeling very sober my sense of self preservation kicked in and i ran...the opposite direction of my car. stll running,i could hear johnathons now weaker sounding struggle with what was once my brother.when i finally reached the end of the park exhausted, confused and terrified i was greeted with...nothing. not one person was walking the streets. not one car. not one dog. not even the homeless man we had seen earlier that weekend who pretty muched "lived" outside the supermarket facing the park. with a dead phone and a shakey resolve i started to walk the streets.
